Your First Tattoo Consultation at Kisha Munich: What Actually Happens

A lot of people write to me with a question first, not a booking request. "I don't know exactly what I want yet — is it okay to come in?" Yes. That's exactly what the consultation is for.

Here I'll explain how tattoo consultations work at my studio in Munich — so you know what to expect before you walk through the door for the first time.

Who Comes for a Consultation

Most people who come to me for the first time share something: they have an idea in their head, but they're not sure if it's "good enough."

The answer is almost always: yes. No concept is too simple. No question is too basic. The only mistake you can make at a tattoo consultation is not showing up at all.

Why a First Consultation Isn't Standardised

A consultation at a tattoo studio isn't a standard procedure. You know roughly what happens at a hairdresser's. With a tattoo artist, not necessarily — every studio runs differently.

With me, it's not a sales call and it's not me pushing a particular design on you. I ask questions. I listen. And then I ask more questions.

How the Conversation Actually Starts

When you come to my studio in Munich for the first time, I don't immediately tell you what I'd do. I let you talk first.

Where does the idea come from? How long have you been carrying it? What does it mean to you — or does it deliberately mean nothing and you just want something beautiful? That's an equally valid reason.

This part usually takes longer than people expect. That's intentional. The more I understand, the better the result.

What to Bring

No fully prepared brief needed. Bring what you have:

  • images on your phone that appeal to you
  • screenshots from Instagram or Pinterest
  • photos of tattoos you like — even if you can't explain why

Sometimes that "I don't know why I like this" is the most interesting information in the whole conversation.

If you don't have anything yet: that's also fine. We'll just start with questions.

What I Don't Do That Day

I don't usually tattoo at the first consultation.

Exception: flash tattoos — finished designs that can be applied straight away. That's a different format.

For custom projects, I need time afterwards. I think, I design. Usually three to seven days. A sketch that comes together ten minutes after the conversation isn't a good sketch.

Why I Sometimes Ask Uncomfortable Questions

If an idea still feels very fresh — or if someone chooses a placement that I know from experience tends to be problematic — I say so directly.

That's not a critique. That's my job.

I've seen what happens when someone makes an impulse decision and regrets it a year later. I don't want to be the one who just waved it through. So I'd rather ask one uncomfortable question too many than one too few.

What Happens After the Conversation

If we both want the project, my work begins with the design.

You receive it before the appointment — not while you're lying on the table. That matters to me. You should have time to look at it, sleep on it, and look again the next morning. Only then does it make sense to start.

After that, we book the actual tattoo session.

Ready for Your First Consultation?

If you have an idea — even an unfinished one — write to me or book a consultation in Munich directly. The conversation is free and commits you to nothing. Just a calm talk about what you have in mind.
